Last Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder made a bold move regarding the now extinct “war on terror”. Making an apparent 180° on his own stance towards looking back at Bush-era controversies, Holder appointed a special prosecutor to investigate alleged abuse of terror suspects. In April of this year, Mr. Holder said, “It would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department.” (more…)

The Politicizing and Anti-Politicizing in the Death of Ted Kennedy

Yesterday before heading home, I was reading a few articles on liberal blogs and saw a lot of sentiment towards the effect of “we should pass this Health Care bill in the name of Ted Kennedy” or “Republicans should get on the bandwagon and honor Ted Kennedy”. Senator Byrd and other colleagues asked for the bill to be renamed in his honor hours after the announcement was made. For the most part I think the coverage of Kennedy’s passing has been respectful on both sides. But reading these sites soured my mood about where this topic was heading. I mean, Ive been called a racist, pig-headed, and un-American for not supporting the still yet undefined Health Bill…I really don’t feel like adding “disrespectful to the dead” to that list. (more…)

Budget Update: If You Lose $2 Trillion in a Weekend, Does it Make a Sound?

You know how the government likes to make sure it keeps bad news out of the headlines by casually dropping the information on a Friday afternoon? Well last Friday was one of those bad-news-lets-keep-it-out-of-the-24-hour-news-cycle days. Then today, the White House took their gamesmenship to a championship level by releasing CIA documents and appointing an independent investigator to investigate past interrogation techniques. Interrogation is catnip to cable news pundits. Combined these two tried & true tactics have provided an A+ diversion for the Obama administration to add 27% to the federal deficit projection without raising any significant questions from the general public. It’s getting damn near cartoon-ish. (more…)

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen two groups relentlessly duking it out over the future of US healthcare. One side is made up mostly of concerned Americans, republicans, the elderly, and folks who feel disenfranchised with our political system and the politicians they elected. The other side is made up of (more…)

Sometimes you just can’t win. That is how NBC/WSJ Pollsters must feel after they released their August poll regarding the national pulse on the Health Care debate. Progressives and Conservatives both came out crying foul – disagreeing with the phrasing of specific questions. Both sides feel their side of the debate was mis-represented to guide the answer in a certain direction or to make those replies look foolish when not given the correct context. (more…)
