The USS Cole was attacked in the Yemeni Port of Aden, on October 12, 2000. 17 sailors died and 39 more were injured in the suicide attack. Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack and Jamal al-Badawi was detained just days later. His confession to recruiting the other bombers led to several arrests including Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri. Since then al-Badawi has escaped from Yemeni prisons twice along with others convicted for the Cole bombing. He last surrendered to Yemeni authorities as part of an agreement with al-Qaeda militants, although he was released in return for a pledge not to engage in any violent or al-Qaeda related activity. Ten years later none of the defendants convicted in Yemen of the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole remain in prison.

Congressman Lamar Smith of Texas hit on my biggest problem with the Obama Administration. America has been suffering causalities at the hands of militant Islam since the 1980’s. These radicals have killed well over 4,000 Americans since they declared war on us.

Yet, today this administration is afraid to offend the enemies. After two minutes of questioning, our nations top lawyer concludes with this sentence:

Illegal Immigration, Fairness and Apartheid

Last Friday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed State Bill 1070 into law.  The reformed immigration law states, “The provisions of this act are intended to work together to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens and economic activity by persons unlawfully present in the United States.”  Its intent couldn’t be any clearer.  Basing the decision on the Federal Government’s clear dereliction of duty to protect what George Will calls “the essential attribute of national sovereignty,” Arizonans decided to expand law enforcement’s reach in cracking down on illegal aliens.  In the few days since its passage we have seen mass protests and arrests, groups already suing, political jockeying and emotional rabble-rousing to the third degree.  (more…)

Ground Zero

In a manner fitting of the Obama administration, a bombshell was dropped on the American people last Friday afternoon. Eric Holder, the US Attorney General announced that he will be sending Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (self-proclaimed mastermind of 9-11) and 4 other Gitmo detainees to Manhattan to be tried for their crimes in CIVILIAN court as opposed to Military Tribunal. These Military Commissions have a long history going all the way back to the Revolutionary War. Having been most famously reinstituted back in 2001 by President George W. Bush, these commissions were upheld by the Supreme Court and Congress as recently as 2006 and 2009. Upon entering office, President Obama halted all Military Tribunals and now, dripping with twisted irony, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (KSM) and his cohorts will be tried only blocks away from the location of the worst terror attack in US History, Ground Zero. Attorney General Eric Holder

Attorney General Eric Holder

Last Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder made a bold move regarding the now extinct “war on terror”.  Making an apparent 180° on his own stance towards looking back at Bush-era controversies, Holder appointed a special prosecutor to investigate alleged abuse of terror suspects.  In April of this year, Mr. Holder said, “It would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department.”  (more…)
