Illegal Immigration, Fairness and Apartheid
Last Friday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed State Bill 1070 into law. The reformed immigration law states, “The provisions of this act are intended to work together to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens and economic activity by persons unlawfully present in the United States.” Its intent couldn’t be any clearer. Basing the decision on the Federal Government’s clear dereliction of duty to protect what George Will calls “the essential attribute of national sovereignty,” Arizonans decided to expand law enforcement’s reach in cracking down on illegal aliens. In the few days since its passage we have seen mass protests and arrests, groups already suing, political jockeying and emotional rabble-rousing to the third degree. (more…)

The health care summit today made for some interesting television…if you find policy discussion devoid of any real confrontation interesting. Although boring, I love watching politics in action…I am a political wonk like that. I listened to way too much of it, and jotted down a couple things I liked and didn’t like about today’s forum. Attorney General Eric Holder
Last Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder made a bold move regarding the now extinct “war on terror”. Making an apparent 180° on his own stance towards looking back at Bush-era controversies, Holder appointed a special prosecutor to investigate alleged abuse of terror suspects. In April of this year, Mr. Holder said, “It would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department.” (more…)
