The year is nearly over – time to review what’s happened in 2010 while we look forward to a superb 2011. I’ve picked a few posts we’ve done each month this year…some were more enlightening, some were more argumentative, and some were just more entertaining. We took all of December off, but look forward to getting back at posting more in 2011. Thanks for visiting the site this year, and wish y’all a Happy, Blessed, and Prosperous New Year. (more…)

Health Care Spin Will Not Die

Unlike “grandma”, one thing that will not die is the spin surrounding the Health Care debate. So let’s recap where we are right now with the new health care law: In the past week, a bunch of pompous speeches and voting have taken place, and in the end, all it means is the bill is still passed. That was the short summary ignoring all the bloviating (thank you, Mr. O’Reilly). Meanwhile, the President continues to tour across American campaigning about this bill. Isn’t it a bit scary that the President needs to put so much effort in selling this bill to the American people after a year of debating? This man could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves. Anyways, of all the talk, the most intriguing part to me is how the Left and the media are working desperately to spin the storyline away from the bill and on to circumstantial events. (more…)
Health Care Reform Bill Passes
Posted in Health Care, tagged Health Care, Health Care bill, Health Care Reform, House of Representatives on March 21, 2010| 8 Comments »
The Health Care Reform bill passed the House this evening by a vote of 219-212. It appears the block of Pro-Life Democrats that were persuaded by the Executive Order were the deciding factor. There are still more details to be ironed out next week in the Senate. But for tonight, the President’s party has passed the essential and foremost part of his platform. Much more to come later…
Final Countdown – Health Care Reform Vote Today

“We’re leaving together/But still it’s farewell/And maybe we’ll come back/To earth, who can tell?/I guess there is no one to blame/We’re leaving ground/Will things ever be the same again?/It’s the Final Countdown”
After nearly a year of lively debate, the Health Care Reform bill will finally come up for a final vote in the House of Representatives. The bill still must pass the Senate, which shouldn’t be an issue if they use reconciliation, so this vote really represents the final hurdle for the Democrats to pass the unpopular bill. Sort of. So what’s next? (more…)
Decriminalization of Non-Medical Marijuana

At first glance I thought to myself no way this should be allowed in America. We would be on our way to looking like San Francisco or New Amsterdam. Yet perhaps, this movement is a happy medium for weed smokers in between legalization and incarceration. (more…)

The health care summit today made for some interesting television…if you find policy discussion devoid of any real confrontation interesting. Although boring, I love watching politics in action…I am a political wonk like that. I listened to way too much of it, and jotted down a couple things I liked and didn’t like about today’s forum. More Amusement

A story our website failed to cover extensively was the backroom deals that took place in the Senate to get Obamacare passed. One of the big recipients was Ben Nelson a formerly popular Governor from Nebraska. In return for his vote his state received ‘the cornhusker kickback’, which among other things gave the state a permanent exemption from the state share of Medicaid expansion for Nebraska, meaning federal taxpayers have to kick in an additional $45 million in the first decade. Maybe America is beginning to wake up, the very constituents that benefited from this deal booed and heckled Nelson out of a Pizza Hut. Now he trails by 31 points in a hypothetical match-up with Nebraska’s current governor for the 2012 elections. I commend the citizens of Nebraska for holding their representatives accountable.
While the heat was on Nelson and negotiations were being made, Nelson ran this video to help persuade his fellow constituents.
We found out this week, that it’s not a Ben Nelson campaign ad. You probably can’t make out the disclaimer, but the ad was paid for by the Nebraska Democratic Party. So, not only did Nelson get bought off with Medicaid funding from the federal treasury, it now appears he got TV ads from the NDP. The DNC and Organizing for America have been asking supporters of “real” health care reform for funds and to the tune of about 500,000 dollars that support went to Nelson. The same Nelson that helped kill the public option, medicare buy-in, and insisted on harsh anti abortion language. Funny, that at this very time in Martha Coakley was running some horrendous ads in Massachusetts. Think this money could have been better spent?
