Score one for Joe Public

A story our website failed to cover extensively was the backroom deals that took place in the Senate to get Obamacare passed. One of the big recipients was Ben Nelson a formerly popular Governor from Nebraska. In return for his vote his state received ‘the cornhusker kickback’, which among other things gave the state a permanent exemption from the state share of Medicaid expansion for Nebraska, meaning federal taxpayers have to kick in an additional $45 million in the first decade. Maybe America is beginning to wake up, the very constituents that benefited from this deal booed and heckled Nelson out of a Pizza Hut. Now he trails by 31 points in a hypothetical match-up with Nebraska’s current governor for the 2012 elections. I commend the citizens of Nebraska for holding their representatives accountable.

While the heat was on Nelson and negotiations were being made, Nelson ran this video to help persuade his fellow constituents.
We found out this week, that it’s not a Ben Nelson campaign ad. You probably can’t make out the disclaimer, but the ad was paid for by the Nebraska Democratic Party. So, not only did Nelson get bought off with Medicaid funding from the federal treasury, it now appears he got TV ads from the NDP. The DNC and Organizing for America have been asking supporters of “real” health care reform for funds and to the tune of about 500,000 dollars that support went to Nelson. The same Nelson that helped kill the public option, medicare buy-in, and insisted on harsh anti abortion language. Funny, that at this very time in Martha Coakley was running some horrendous ads in Massachusetts. Think this money could have been better spent?

A recent CNN poll showed that 80% of Americans are concerned that the new Health Care Bill will impact the deficit. So, where do we stand today? The House has a public option, while the Senate Bill doesn’t. We’ve seen the Congress claim that cuts to Medicare and CMS will result in enough savings to support the bill and will be budget neutral. Obama has made strong stances on Illegals coverage, coverage for Abortions, and most importantly in my opinion the impact to our deficit. Do you remember, “I will not sign a bill that adds one penny to the deficit”? How easy we forget, YOU LIE!, sorry I couldn’t help myself. I’d like to provide a perspective on the inner workings of Health Care reimbursement, which similar to other industries, drives the market. (more…)

Apparently there are a few bad apples in the Big Apple also. Once again filmmaker James O’Keefe and partner Hannah Giles received advice from ACORN workers on how to launder their earnings and avoid detection from law enforcement officials while running a prostitution business.

This recent scam, which was attempted in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia to name a few places, had failed for months before the results we’ve all recently seen.

Well in the famous words of George Bush……

In God We Trust

As my somewhat less Conservative Brother notes in his recent post (Obama Address to Congress, Part Deux), Obama gave another brilliant speech in Wednesday’s address. He did an amazing job at invoking emotions using anecdotal evidence and heart tugging rhetoric, and I believe this speech will give him at least a temporary boost in public approval.  The question is, will the temporary uplift in sentiment towards a health care overhaul be sustained until Senator Max Baucas presents the new bill in late September?  Baucus has said publicly that he intends to push the bill forward with or without bi-partisan backing.  Think the overhaul sounds inevitable?  Think again.  There has been one common denominator amidst pundits on both sides of the spectrum.  How will we pay for the plan?  And, are Obama’s figures for funding the plan even possible.  Lets take them one by one.

James O’Keefe aka “undercover pimp” strikes again. Yesterday after the first two videos broke Scott Levenson, a spokesman for ACORN said:

“The portrayal is false and defamatory and an attempt at gotcha journalism. This film crew tried to pull this sham at other offices and failed. ACORN wants to see the full video before commenting further.”

Oops, time to pull your foot out of your mouth and tell everyone ACORN is taking this problem seriously, Scott.

This video was made public Thursday on BigGovernment.com, a political blog launched by Andrew Breitbart. In the videotape, James O’Keefe, a 25-year-old independent filmmaker, posed as a pimp with a 20-year-old woman named “Kenya” who posed as a prostitute while visiting ACORN’s office in Baltimore. The results are shocking to say the least.
