With a little help from today’s news, Bill O’reilly and his recurring guest Bernard Goldberg have finally convinced me. I now agree with them that the media is not just biased in opinion, but is corrupt in their tactics and means they will use to push their agenda. If you’ve ever questioned the leanings and power of a “covertly” slanted media, look no further than the past week and a half. The hubbub over the Arizona Illegal Immigration law points to a trend that should frighten even the leftist of left-wingers. I believe the media, working in possible collusion with open-borders proponents and morally confused liberals have engaged in a campaign to blatantly distort, discredit and outright lie about the new Arizona law.
Now, the law does have its shortcomings as good people can disagree on its merits. My issues are with the opening up of lawsuits directed towards AZ police officers, and the potential for anyone in law enforcement using the added responsibility to harass the innocent. But then again I assume the best from Police Officers in general and do not view them as power hungry abusers like those on the left do. What we can’t argue are the repeated tactics liberals and their pocket media have engaged in to purposely skirt and deflect the real issues facing not just those affected, but all Americans.
The bottom line is that the state of Arizona, inundated with illegal immigrants passed this law which they subsequently scaled back, to either aggressively crack down on illegal immigration and their employers, or to force the hand of the federal government to definitively secure our border. Both ends are tricky and a political nightmare, but Arizona believed their legal population’s civil rights, safety and economy trumped those of some 500,000 estimated illegals that currently live in Arizona. Don’t’ forget that 70% of AZ residents supported this law, and painstaking lengths were taken to thoughtfully development it, assuring that no one’s civil rights will be marginalized. Additional training is scheduled for AZ police officers, and again Mexican illegal immigration laws are MUCH more stringent and brutal. None of this has mattered to the left and the media. And today we saw the results of that blatant corruption.
This morning when I woke up I saw this on Yahoo’s homepage. The Phoenix Suns in an alleged attempt to honor the Latino Community decided to wear their alternate “Los Suns” jerseys for their May 5th game. The reasoning was, “to honor [the] Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona, and our nation.” Sounds harmless and beautiful right? Think again. Team owner Robert Sarver after calling the law flawed chimed in with, “the result of passing the law is that our basic principles of equal rights and protection under the law are being called into question.” Called into question why? Because a cop, already engaged with someone may ask for I.D.? Because now an immigrant or temporary worker or student who, under federal law is already required to carry their legal documentation with them, may now be asked for it? Oh it gets worse.
Tipping their hand, the writer said this about Phoenix star point guard and Canadian citizen Steve Nash, “As if he weren’t likeable enough,” then quoted this gem of irrational knowledge, ” I think the law is very misguided. I think it’s, unfortunately, to the detriment of our society and our civil liberties. I think it’s very important for us to stand up for things we believe in. . . The league is very multicultural . . . our Latino community here is very strong and important to us.” Okay great. Now what does that have to do with the AZ law which simply traces the federal anti-illegal immigration law? Mr. Nash, have you even read the law, or its subsequent amendments? Have you even read or watched ANYTHING with a moderately level hand in regards to media coverage on this law? Or have you simply been played by the far left and their colluding media cohorts? Amazingly the article gets even worse.
NBA Players Association executive director Billy Hunter was quoted with this, “the new immigration law in Arizona is disappointing and disturbing. The National Basketball Players Association strongly supports the repeal or immediate modification of this legislation. Any attempt to encourage, tolerate or legalize racial profiling is offensive and incompatible with basic notions of fairness and equal protection. A law that unfairly targets one group is ultimately a threat to all.” So that’s it then. I guess all NBA players have read the law, heard fair commentary and reporting on it, and made their decisions. Do you think Billy Hunter realizes just how stupid he sounds saying this is an attempt to legalize racial profiling? Do these millionaires have any idea what they’re saying?
Do me a favor. Watch Bill O’reilly’s talking points from Monday night and tell me what you disagree with. Tell me where he misses the point and where he distorts the truth about the AZ law and about the media’s unfair play regarding it. Are you starting to believe me?
Even after over a week of unfair media coverage, often times with news outlets framing the bill as anti-immigration instead of anti-illegal immigration, over 50% of the public is still in favor of immigration laws with similar language. And even after AZ reworded the bill to assure their resident’s civil rights, and that no racial profiling will be done, the damage may have already been done. With normal disdain for law enforcement, and a desire to incite irrational fervor while constantly demonizing the tactics and mindset that they are displaying, the left has absolutely jumped off the cliff into the pit of complete irrationality.
Can you understand my issue and anger here? The groundwork has been laid over the past week and a half, and the positions clearly articulated, and now it’s time that we expose the callous absurdity within our media and Democratic Party. Many so-called leaders on the issue have been quoted blatantly lying about the law, prominent news outlets are purposely wording their reports to push an agenda, and now an organization that reaches millions of children has reverberated these lies and distortions. Am I missing something here?
The only thing you missing is a hundred examples more showing how misleading the media has been. I have been talking to a lot of people about this lately. What bothers me is that all the arguments against the law have nothing to do with the law. (Civil rights, immigrants, racism, etc) What really drives me crazy is the people who argue that there is no problem with illegal immigrants.
Did you see O Rielly on Tuesday?
Hey Timmy.
Havent watched Tuesday’s Oreilly yet, what did i miss?
I had heard that the Judge believes the new law to be unconstitutional, but was wondering if you knew why?
To me, other than the law already working as we have seen news reports saying that illegals are going to stay away from Arizona, this law as its written now wont really do a whole lot. Its not going to make a very big impact since its so mild. I have no problem, well actually a little problem, with those who believe that all illegals should be given citizenship, or a fast pathway to it, i just want those positions to be stated outright. I hate how the left always has to skirt it and pander around it and not say what they really want to.
This is a real tough issue cuz im weird about the prospects of national id cards and increasing immigration quotas, but securing the border should be securing the borders, and allowing all law enforcement as many tools as possible to crackdown on illegal immigrations detrimental effects should be universally agreed to. Reagan gave amnesty to almost 3 million 20 some years ago, and now dems want amnesty for 15 million more, this is ridiculous.
Start at the 3:30 mark…The Judge kinda explains his comments about the law probably being stricken down in court:
basic principles of equal rights and protection under the law are being called into question
the detriment of our society and our civil liberties
A law that unfairly targets one group is ultimately a threat to all
fairness and equal protection
These are Quotes from your story . I notice that all of these words never seem to be applied to Americans living in Arizona. Only to illegals. Now why is that? Aren’t citizens of this country entitled to some of these rights. Any of these rights? This whole thing is insane. How can it be that a person who breaks the law is entitled to more rights that the people who are not breaking any laws? Why is it that as Americans some of us will give up our own rights to just hand them over to anyone.
Thanks for visiting and commenting!
What you’re seeing as common sense is not-so-common to our liberal brothers. This is just another example of the Obama admin, democratic leadership, and the media being completely at odds with the American people.
But then again i have to argue all the time that the media is even biased…. I swear we are living on two different planets..
Here is an update on this. Now they want the Supreme Court to rule on a 2008 law Arizona passed making it a crime to employ illegals. This is just out of control. I may be willing to make some compromise on the illegals in this country. But the law is designed to go after the ones who are breaking the law. For what seems to me to be the second time. But to have any American supporting mass amnesty for all is just ridiculous. Not one protest for the farmer who died. Not one protest over the little girls who were raped. How can an American citizen just turn their backs on other Americans in beyond me. There is a very big problem here. And those on the left just refuse to see it. Never thought I’d live to see the day when Americans would hurt other Americans over something as stupid as this. And to have the President say openly he is against the law is just the power these people need to turn this into a free for all that will eventually turn this country into a lawless nation like Mexico is today.
It’s heartbreaking to discover that we have become a nation of uninformed people who would do anything to destroy this country. Where did it say that the Arizona law was just about Mexicans? 1/2 a million people who are not Mexican also cross that border. Do you want amnesty for them too?
Wow glad to find another that thinks clearly. Would also like to add a few things.
Ive very surprised at the outright civil war that San Fran, LA, Boston, Seattle and others have engaged in against Arizona, has not gotten much play in the media… It seems that MOST fair minded would be horrified at the idea of trying to ruin a fellow state due to simple policy differences, not to mention they shoyuld really be boycotting the govt since the fed law is the same…
Also, in regard to the lenghts the AZ legislature went to make sure racial profiling wasnt going to be done, when over 80% of illegals are mexican or other hispanic descent, arent we basically just making it so the cops cant do their job? I mean im not for harrassment or unjust questioning, and would scoff at the idea of unlimited power to law enforcement, but arent we basically just slowly killing ourself with our absurdly politcally correct nature?
