The Health Care Reform bill passed the House this evening by a vote of 219-212. It appears the block of Pro-Life Democrats that were persuaded by the Executive Order were the deciding factor. There are still more details to be ironed out next week in the Senate. But for tonight, the President’s party has passed the essential and foremost part of his platform. Much more to come later…

If you want to see the Repubican Senators strategy going forward with the reconciled bill this week, here it is: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,589727,00.html
What’s up Tim. I know today may not be one of your best, but I honestly hope it turns out to be good for you.
I wanted to get your feedback on an article that relates to a post that you commented on maybe a week or two ago about Racial Discrimination inherited in the Tea Party. This is just additional proof of the arguments given.
Please understanding I’m not blaming you specifically, but you’re one of the few considerate conservatives that has at least tried to address the issues that I was raising. I’m sure some of your readers may instantly get upset, but I hope not.
The Articles:
Yahoo/McClatchy – 03/20/10 “Tea Party Protesters use Racial epithet against Congressman John Lewis”
http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20100320/pl_mcclatchy/3457015
Now for those who don’t know American history may not realize the implications this sends. Of all people to call a Nigger this person does not deserve that considering all that he’s done for equal, human & civil rights. But this is what I’ve been warning about.
Examiner – 03/21/10 “Tea Party protesters shout ‘nigger’ to lawmaker”
http://www.examiner.com/x-15870-Populist-Examiner~y2010m3d21-Tea-Party-protesters-shout-nigger-and-spit-on-lawmaker
So I will ask the question respectfully again. If it’s not about race, then why does this continue to happen?
Doesn’t this contribute to the reality that the overwhelming void of racial diversity within the Republican Party?
Listen, there are many who would listen more to conservatives if they would stand up and speak out against this more vocally and with more passion than a “it’s a shame”.
This is both of our common enemy, but I’ve grown tired fighting it by myself. I’m honest enough to say that if White Republicans (I know that’s an oxymoron, but I’m speaking about the majority of the GOP) don’t speak up more about this, Democrats will continue to use it against you. But if all non-conservative, non-white people hear is silence as a response or lack of action then nothing will change, the Democrats will continue to grow in numbers with more diverse coalitions and Republicans will essentially continue to shrink out of neglect to address this problem.
Tim, I sincerely believe you’re a stand-up guy. We don’t have to agree politically, but I simply find it difficult to believe that you would endorse this. Even if you’re unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the subject, I can just tell by previous comments offered that you would go along with this.
*A bit long. Sorry about that, but I hope you understand. Be good.
“If it’s not about race, then why does this continue to happen? ”
It is about race… and a little disdain for what the government is doing.
“Doesn’t this contribute to the reality that the overwhelming void of racial diversity within the Republican Party?”
Yes is it does. It is unfortunate and it is mostly a political game being played. The Republicans have a big void to fill for a variety of reasons. This is were we disagree, I don’t think racism is somehow inherent in the republican party or tea party anymore than it is in the democratic party. Yes, it happens and it is always condemned and I haven’t ever seen an instance were it is welcome.
I agree “it is a shame” is not enough. This goes for both sides of the aisle. In my perfect world, the person who had these feelings and that way would be shamed out of society and the politicians who didn’t outright condemn, chastise, and separate themselves from that type of attitude would also be thrown out.
Here is the hole in argument and the problem.
“But if all …. people hear is silence as a response … then nothing will change, the Dems will continue to grow in numbers with more diverse coalitions…”
These people that you speak of are only willing to hear what they want. Almost like you choose to disregard Micheal Steele and Boehner’s comments of isolation and disgraceful. Republican leaders already condemn the actions, no amount of language or action will change opinions of people who don’t want to hear it.
Hey TimValentine. Why cant i comment on your site? Will gladly argue race relations with you all day long.
Tim Valentine – Thanks for the comment, and Im sure Timmy will write back to you when he gets the chance. But for a response right now, let me give you my opinion…
I heard Boehner call them reprehensible but isolated incidents. If you’ve read the site, you’d know I am not a huge fan of Boehner, I’d rather that he gets replaced and start a new chapter of Republican leadership, but in this case I agree with him.
Am I supposed to believe all the violent and hate speech…while maybe not always is racially motivated, but still hate-filled… represents all anti-trade or anti-war protestors? No I dont. I think its the vocal minority that gets the attention. Same as in this case…I know many rural Midwestern conservatives, that might be classified as “tea partiers” that aren’t scared about the direction of the country because of the race of the President or sexual orientation of a congressman. And I believe that is the vast majority of the conservative movement, not the idiots yelling racial slurs at John Lewis.
What do us, as a more educated conservative or the leaders of the Republican Party need to do? Stand up and reprimend every such case that the media reports on? Demand the far right fringe never vote for a Republican again? Make them where a scarlet ‘R’ so the media can find them easier and make their reporting even lazier? I dont see Democrats eagerly bashing away the far left crazies that often get lumped it with their educated masses.
It is reprehensible and sad that we still have to deal with these issues despite much progress that has been made over the last 50 years. But it shouldnt deflect from the debate, and shouldnt be used to define an entire block of good American citizens.
People keep asking me how I feel today. I am sad the legislation was passed in this fashion. I wish reform took place incrementally so everyone understood. To me it is elementary to cut out the 500 billion in fraud first then create programs and fixes. But what else is new, who likes the way Washington works?
I can’t be upset, this was a year in making. The President didn’t hide it when he ran from election. Yes, it wasn’t done the right way and may not be what some expected but it isn’t a surprise. More importantly, the problems that plagued the republican party for the previous eight years opened this door. The media pushing agenda combined with the rights shaky credibility makes anything possible.
Timmy, I feel 100% the same way. I expected this to pass a long time ago, and although the Dems kept pointing at the Republicans as the bad guys – all they had to do was switch the votes of a few members of their own party to get it done. 4 years of bad conservative principles gave the Democrats the office, they pushed through a reform package they found vital. Now the political pendulum begins its swing back.
I dont like the bill, I dont like how the bill passed, and I hope between now and 2014 they figure out how to make this bill work better. But there are some good parts that will help a lot of people and Im not giving up that America will gets itself back in order in a short time.
I think a major point that you guys havent mentioned is once you give an entitlement, esp one as GIGANTIC as this, you cant take it back. Yes we needed reform but not this. I dont care that there may be some good things in it.
How many sob stories have we heard, how much racial and class posturing have we heard, can you imagine how a conservative will be vilified if they dare try and take away an entitlement that the left has now deemed to be “A Right.” Don’t forget leadership has almost unanimously stated they want single payer and this lays the groundwork. WE ALL KNOW That this wasnt about providing additional coverage to the downtrodden few. This was about control and the govts role in our lives. Any one of the bailouts could have easily provided coverage to the 10-20 million of legitimately uninsured.
People like TimValentine buy the media push hook line and sinker. Past reports of racial slurs or “kill him” have been discredited, not to mention never recorded. We have no clue who the alleged people are causing a rucus. Not saying these things didnt happen, just that media bias and liberal interpretation always skews the real issues at hand. A few crazies dont represent the whole as you guys stated. Meanwhile a black conseravtive gets beat up by union members and hardly a peep… The double standard and media bias is so deep i think we overlook it often.
