Last Friday, Rep. Trent Franks, a Republican from Arizona, said this about abortion.
far more of the African American community is being devastated by the policies of today than were being devastated by the policies of slavery.
Here is the video of the interview with video blogger Mike Stark of StarkReports.com.
Predictably, Salon.com and Thinkprogress.com and others jumped all over Franks for his indecent and extreme comments. Initially, I was also taken back. After reviewing the numbers, you can see that Franks is just bringing to light a serious problem. The problem, is that black women are three times more likely to have an abortion than white women. According to the Center for Disease Control, black women represent 12.5% of American females but they have 38.2% of all abortions. The abortion ratio for black women (472 per 1,000 live births) was 2.9 times higher than the ratio for white women (161 per 1,000). These statistics back up Franks extreme statements. Nearly half of all black women pregnancies end in abortion.
Even in the face of concrete facts, the left trots out its ideology screaming RACIST. The Right to Life Campaign in Georgia has a controversial billboard depicting the image of a black infant with the message, “Black children are an endangered species.” The left is upset about the “scare tactics” of the right to life movement. They imply that it is evil to be against women rights and worried about these alarming statistics.
Here is something to think about. One of the left hero’s Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood) was for woman’s rights as a proponent of negative eugenics. Today, Planned Parenthood will try to back track and distance the woman’s rights movement from eugenics. Sanger’s writings and teachings will tell us otherwise. She published such articles as “Some Moral Aspects of Eugenics” (June 1920), “The Eugenic Conscience” (February 1921), “The purpose of Eugenics” (December 1924), “Birth Control and Positive Eugenics” (July 1925), “Birth Control: The True Eugenics” (August 1928), and many others.
Eugenics is an ideology that prevailed in the early 20th century. In a historical and broader sense, eugenics is the study of “improving human genetic qualities”. In harsher terms, Eugenicists hoped to purify the bloodlines and improve the human race by encouraging the “fit” to reproduce and the “unfit” to restrict their reproduction. They sought to contain the “inferior” races through segregation, sterilization, birth control and abortion.
Eugenics and racial origins may have been part of Planned Parenthood foundation but today they are no longer associated. Perhaps, the statistics show they have reared they’re ugly head. Good thing, someone sees this. Day Gardner, the president of the National Black Pro-Life Union, sees what is happening and acknowledges Trent Franks statement,
Face it America, he’s right. Abortion has exacted a greater toll on blacks than slavery. Our country brutally enslaved four million people, denying them their rights, their freedom and many times their lives. Rep. Franks is simply comparing that horrific truth to another horrific truth — which is that abortion has killed more than 17 million black people

Timmy,
I like the subject, i hadn’t heard about Franks’ comments. I do remember that billboard and hearing a someone on radio talk about how it plays it racist sentiments of blacks being animals or something like that. Completely overlooking the point of it and pulling on the racism stings again…
I’m still waiting for the great race debate to be had. I think that blacks enlightenment to their blind adherence to liberal policies and the democratic party being largely responsible for their current status is long overdue. Victimization and Entitlement attitudes are like plagues that just kill peoples minds. I think it was good for African Americans to see how liberals were comparing sexual orientation to the civil rights movement and real bigotry from the 60’s.. .. and how they rejected that idea.
My advice to anybody who does any public speaking in any type of venue — Do not ever, EVER, compare anything to the Holocust or Slavery. It doesnt work, nothing is comparable, you lose your audience immediately, and you sound like a fool.
Now saying that, he has a point…haha.
Johnny,
I agree with you. Pulling that point out doesnt really advance your point, no matter how right or wrong it is…
Guys,
A question:
Do you think this is primarily a race issue or more of a social class issue (not asking rhetorically)?
Steve
Hey Guido,
I actually think this is more of a right vs left issue. Although blacks tend to be religious minded they are also big govt and entitlement minded. And although liberal policies in regards to “lower social classes” in theory are beneficial, its a great case study as to what it does to motivation and actual opportunity.
A good stat is that previous to the late 60’s over over 3/4ths of black kids were born to two parent households… Fast forward 50 years, and now its barely 1/4th… Obviously not saying segregation was better for african americans, but the promise of jobs that moved blacks to the democratic party for the past 50 years has wreaked havoc on them. Its safe to say that when any particular group/race/ethnicity or whatever votes at a 95% clip for decades, something is wrong.
What do you think?
At least during slavery the blacks had jobs and would work. I bet if he had said that, the media would have called him a racist, too. Theres nothing racist about the truth.
