Watch the first 15 seconds of this video from Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. Notice anything about the Hitler signs being carried at this protest outside of a town hall in California? Conservative columnist for the New York Times and Maher panelist Ross Douthat did, but you won’t find it anywhere on the internet (even in this clipped video) or talked about in the mainstream media.
It might be tough to see in this video, but at the bottom of the Hitler signs is the web address for the Lyndon LaRouche Public Action Committee. Those who do not know Lyndon LaRouche, he has ran for the Democratic nomination for President a few times. Actually, 8 times, the latest in 2004. Although he was definitely a Marxist for most of his life, its tough to define his current politics. Most consider him an independent leftist. In the health care debate, LaRouche wants to blow up the entire industry and go with a single payer system by reinstituing the Hill-Burton Act. He unabashedly likens the current approach by the Obama administration to that of Hitler in Nazi Germany. Reviewing the website, you can find the same posters to print that the protesters had outside the California town hall.
In the rest of the video, you hear Dana Gould and Bill Maher continuing to reference the idiocy of the protesters as being uninformed and crazy. Never do they mention that the people that Gould were speaking to were leftists. At the 4:50 mark you hear a voice faintly say, “by the way”. Now of course this is where the video cuts out, and I cant find any video with the full commentary anywhere on the web.
That voice is Ross Douthat cutting in to mention the Lyndon LaRouche label at the bottom of all those posters. Ross points out the label and mentions that LaRouche is a “super left-wing crazy man”. At this time the panel goes silent after being owned by Douthat and Maher quickly moves to the next topic. That’s it — no need to further discuss this issue.
So why does the mainstream media continue to blame Rush Limbaugh and other conservative voices solely for the Nazi rhetoric? Why are they so ignorant that they don’t even mention this fact and instead allow sole blame to be placed on the right? You continue to hear right wing action groups such as FreedomWorks blamed for the aggravated tension at certain town halls, but never the LaRouchePAC. If it wasnt for Ross Douthat, I would have been completely unaware and bought in to the tactic that Bill Maher was attempting to use. It would be great to have faith that the media was investigating and covering the full story and were serious about protecting the American people, and not their own special interests.
To Thank Mr. Douthat for opening up my eyes to something I didn’t realize, Ill pimp his latest book for him: Grand New Party
