In the red corner, fighting out of New York City, by way of the House of Reps, then the MSNBC academy; Joe “Big Country” Scarborough.  And in the blue corner, fighting out of the Peach State; also by way of the House of Reps, and recently Fox News punditry; Newt “The Speaker” Gingrich.

Now touch gloves, and come out fighting!!

Conscientious Objector or Benedict Arnold?

Uncle Anti-War

Often times you hear those on the political left complain that they are caricatured as un-patriotic or even anti-American.  Although I’m not personally familiar with any legitimate or influential conservative politician voicing such rhetoric, it’s a charge that gets regurgitated on a regular basis.  But, is there a basis for such a charge?  Has the claim of being labeled un-American only been used to deflect actual liberal mindsets and actions that warrant such labels?  Is there a difference between taking un-American stances and being righteously anti-American? I love the phenomenon of people recording themselves watching athletic events and putting their reaction on YouTube. I don’t have the foggiest idea when this began, but it’s yet another reason to love America. USA advances in the World Cup, winning its group for the first time since 1930. Hopefully this isn’t the end of the run, and we get more fantastic celebrations by this guy…. USA! USA! USA!

Dicken Elementary School, Ann Arbor Michigan

Last week, elementary school principal Mike Madison took a group of students to see a rocket scientist. The problem is that he only allowed African American students to attend the trip. Madison wrote a letter home to parents to defend the field trip for black students only as part of his school’s efforts to close the achievement gap between white and black students.

If you’ve ever watched South Park, you know the show is unafraid to go after anybody.  Its their satirical look at all walks of life and topical events that has kept the show fresh and maintained its high viewership for 14 seasons.  But on their 200th episode special, they have sparked the anger of a radical Islamic organization that have posted a veiled threat against the creators of the show, Matt Stone and Trey Parker.  (UPDATE: Summary from last night’s show at the bottom) (more…)

Congratulations to Ryan Miller and the United States Men’s Hockey team for upsetting the heavily favored Canadians earlier tonight.  Not quite the Miracle on Ice, and not even an elimination game, but any time you defeat an opponent you haven’t beat in the Olympics for 50 years, it is worthy of celebration.

Plus, it gives me an excuse to post a photo of the greatest goalie mask of all time (the other side features a bald eagle tearing through the helmet).

Following the jump, is the entire text left behind from Joe Stack explaining the reasoning behind his actions.  Before listening the inevitable spin by the media making this a case of a delusional Tea Party supporter, I thought it would be best to read what this domestic terrorist had to say.  While very long and ranty, his manifesto is oddly coherent.  Stack was obviously a sick man that rationalized his desperate actions by blaming an invisible third party for all that has ruined his life.  But he wasnt a stereotypical partisan man of any sort.  He hates capitalism, but he hates big government.  His one tea-party-esque theme is his displeasure that the system is rigged for the corporation while the individual is left out to fend for themselves.  I can’t imagine being so enraged to even consider such an act; but it’s interesting to see how a man could get to this tragic point.  Read for yourself and comment below…  (more…)

A bunch of gems over the past week for our general amusement.  First, Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Penn.) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) appeared together on a Philly radio station last week for our entertainment. During the town hall meetings last year Specter left with a few gems of video clips. He’s back at it again telling Bachmann to act like a lady. Where is his mind? 1952…

This past weekend White House press secretary Robert Gibbs appeared on “Fox News Sunday”, he defended the decision to read alleged bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab his Miranda rights after just 50 minutes of interrogation. He claimed that valuable information was gathered by the experienced investigators. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and not argue the whole Miranda rights issue here. All I want to do is point out that the Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair was not even made aware of the decision. (more…)

Pat Buchanan has a long list of political accolades.  As a former adviser to multiple Republican Presidents he has years of experience on Television as well as Radio.  Currently a regular on MSNBC and syndicated columnist, Buchanan is as experienced politically as anyone and is an influential voice in today’s body politic.  I often read his columns on townhall.com with an appreciation for his experience and willingness to say what he believes.  Unfortunately today I wanted to highlight two of his recent columns as I believe his logic and tone do nothing to advance the debate on two touchy subjects.   Until we can get clearer thinking regarding Race and Radical Islam, our collective relations with both will continue to be hampered.
